We are often asked questions about my firm,
our policies, history and many other subjects and although most answers
can be found in the links to various subjects on the left, I thought it
would be helpful to list some of the FAQ’s. Here they are:
Q. When will my order be delivered?
A. We aim to despatch all orders within 3 working days of their receipt.
Q. By what method do
you send overseas orders?
A. All orders are sent Airmail, regardless of their destination.
Q. What happens if you are out of stock?
A. We will inform you immediately and advise delivery date, which is usually
within 21 days.
Q. What size should
I buy?
A. The Traditional Guernseys are sold by their actual size. A 44"
Guernsey will measure 44", thus it will fit a 40" chest/bust.
Always measure your chest, add two sizes, ie 4" and you will get
a perfect fit. Click here for sizing information
Q. What if I get the
wrong size?
A. You can always exchange. See our Returns Policy
for more details.
Q. Why is it almost
impossible to find Guernseys in the shops?
A. There is a great shortage of the good folk who do the hand finishing
in their cottages. Each Guernsey takes about 2½ hours to complete.
Q. How come Guernsey
Knitwear Co. has such an extensive stock?
A. We are the only Knitwear Mail Order Specialists located in the Channel
Isles and we work very closely with the knitting firms. Thus we get first
pick!
Q. Are any Guernseys
produced in England?
A. The short answer is NO. However, some knitwear, so-called "Guernseys",
is made there. Beware of imitations.
Q. Do you buy or sell
customer lists?
A. No! We go to great lengths to protect your security. Please see our
Security page for more details.
Q. Do you share information
about your customers with any other persons or organisations?
A. Absolutely not!
Q. How long has the
firm been established?
A. 12 years. We have had a Web Site for 10 years.
Q. What is so special
about your range of knitwear?
A. It is comprised of a selection of the best styles produced exclusively
in Guernsey. No single knitter can offer such a choice.
Q. As a resident of
the UK, will I have to pay VAT on my order?
A. The Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom and we are unable
to include this tax in our prices. It may be charged in the UK, although
not necessarily. It seems that it is a bit of a lottery. I say, Good Luck!
Q. Are people living
in countries other than the UK liable to tax?
A. It is possible but we rarely hear of anyone being taxed. Of course
each country has it’s own regime.
Q. How long will a
Guernsey last?
A. We have customers who are still wearing their Guernsey after 40 years.
It is a question of how much TLC you lavish on it. A 30 year life is a
reasonable expectation.
Q. What is the best
way to look after my Guernsey?
A. Wash it as little as possible, preferably by hand. They can be machine
washed but if you want it to last a very long time, dry clean it at the
end of the season and put it away carefully for the summer. A teaspoonful
of hazelnut oil or similar in the final rinse helps restore the oil to
the wool. Moreover, it will smell very nice!
Q. Where were the photos
for the Web Site shot?
A. In Guernsey.

Fermain Bay
Q. So the models are
Guernsey people?
A. Yes, indeed! The whole thing is for real. Our smashing models, the
Guernsey Knitwear and the beautiful Island, itself!
