From time to time I get asked about my firm and so I thought I would jot down a few notes about us for anyone who might be interested.
Perhaps I should start by telling you a little about myself! I have been coming to the Channel Islands since 1952, however I only decided to come and live in Jersey in 1993.
I was most fortunate to have the necessary qualifications to take up residence in this beautiful part of the world, as the Channel Isles are rather a closed shop as far as immigration goes!
Having often tried to buy Channel Islands Knitwear in the United Kingdom, the Guernsey in particular, without much success, I resolved upon arrival to set up a specialist Mail Order (Home Shopping) firm. My aim was and remains, to offer the finest and most representative selection of Channel Islands Knitwear direct to the public.
Living on the spot, I have been able to work closely with the knitters to put together what I can claim with all due modesty, is the most comprehensive collection of original, hand finished Guernsey Sweaters, Cardigans and Gilets you could find anywhere. You can choose from either pure new British wool or 100% cotton styles, for men, women and children.
Today we stock fourteen (14) colours in the Traditional Guernsey alone, which come in most sizes from 24" to 56"! This is not to mention all the other splendid styles you can see for yourself as you scroll through the range.
After very humble beginnings, when we advertised only in a few magazines, it gradually became known that we could offer an amazing selection of this wonderful knitwear.
A great leap forward for us came when we invested in a computer, a fairly basic tool for running a business, you may say! However, it has enabled us to give far more professional service compared to the days when all invoices were hand written!
Then twelve (12) years ago, we went on line! This was pioneering stuff for us but before long we came to realise that we were indeed living in a global village, as the orders started to come in from all over the world.
Many people had been trying in vain to get Guernsey sweaters and knitwear and evidently they were delighted to discover us on the net.
Nowadays, Guernsey Knitwear Company ads can be found in the classifieds of the Field, Country Life and Country Living. We have a new free colour brochure, shot in Guernsey only recently and there is the World Wide Web.
The rest, my friend, is history!
